Speed-Time Graphs

A different story

Here the line's steepness shows acceleration (speeding up or slowing down), not speed itself. Think of it like watching a speedometer needle over a journey, rather than watching the odometer.

Acceleration = gradient of the speed-time graph.

Distance travelled = area under the speed-time graph. For a graph that's a straight ramp from 0 to 20 m/s over 10 seconds, the distance is the area of the triangle: ½ × 10 × 20 = 100 m.
