Factorising

Factorising is the reverse of expanding

Like packing sweets back into a labelled bag - you're looking for what's common.

Common factor

6x + 9 = 3(2x + 3)

Factorising quadratics

x² + 7x + 10: find two numbers that multiply to 10 and add to 7 → 2 and 5.
x² + 7x + 10 = (x+2)(x+5)

Difference of two squares

x² - 16 = (x-4)(x+4)
